17th century town centre is a conservation-area of cobbled streets and paved piazzas
alive during the day with shopping and commerce, sophisticated in the evening
with café life and alfresco dining and silent at night. Throughout the
summer various cultural events are held in the town and surrounding area. |  Intra lake front
Intra is a centre for mountain and lakeside walks in particular the Val Grande National Park - the largest wilderness area in Western Europe. The lake offers steamer trips on a web of routes to The Borromeo Islands, the would famous gardens of The Villa Taranto, other lake side towns with their weekly markets (Intra's being the largest) and the sophisticated towns of Stresa, Baveno and Pallanza. Alternatively, it is ideally located for spending a day in Switzerland or Milan - the shopping capital of the world. Lake Maggiore is one of the largest lakes in Italy. With its northern end in the Switzerland, the lake has an extraordinary variety of landscapes and scenery from the high snow caped Alps to the rolling country side north of Milan. |
